This chapter offers an imaginative reconstruction of Mesopotamian religious beliefs, relating them wherever possible to agriculture, urbanisation and other aspects of daily life. | |||
The home page explains the importance of the gods and goddesses in Mesopotamia. |
The story presents a version of a Mesopotamian creation myth. This section could be used to discuss ideas about the importance of agriculture and why the gods were thought to be important. |
The explore section is set up as a resource for accessing information about the gods, goddesses, demons and monsters of Mesopotamia. The name, appearance, and general characteristics of thirty-five supernatural beings are presented on ‘tablets'. These ‘tablets' can be accessed by alphabetical list or by appearance. This section could be used as a reference for pupils doing research, and as a way of presenting the major deities worshipped in Mesopotamia. |
‘The Cities of the Gods' is an activity in which pupils have to match a number of gods to their sacred animal and symbol in order to get them ‘home'. Clues are provided on a cuneiform tablet. |
